LASER TREATMENT FOR HAIR REMOVAL

Understanding Hair Removal
The usual remedies for unwanted hair are plucking, shaving, waxing or chemical depilatories. Some are painful, messy and all are only temporary. For long-term hair removal, electrolysis is popular and effective but is uncomfortable and slow.

Now there’s a more effective solution, the new Laser Hair Removal, a state-of-the-art system specially designed to remove unwanted hair faster and effectively with less discomfort than many other methods.

How does the Laser Hair Removal work?
The light emitted by the hair removal laser is well absorbed by the pigment located in the hair follicles. The laser pulses for a fraction of a second, vaporizing the pigment and significantly impeding the hair’s regrowth.

Is it painful?
A slight tingling sensation comparable to the snap of a rubber band against your skin may sometimes be felt.  Most patients tolerate the procedure well.   To minimize such discomfort, topical anesthetic cream (EMLA) is applied over the area for 30-40 minutes before the treatment.

How long is each session?
The length of the laser session may vary from a few minutes to an hour or more depending on the size of the area to be treated. Sessions are spaced every 3-4 weeks with an average of 4-6 treatments needed.

What should I expect?
The appearance of the treated area immediately after a laser session will vary from patient to patient depending on the extent of the treatment and skin type. Immediately after the session, one may experience some redness and swelling on the area treated, which will disappear after a short time. There may be a slight tingling sensation. The use of antiperspirants or deodorants must be avoided for the next two days.

What should I do in between sessions?
In between treatments it is important not to pluck or wax the treated area. Shaving is encouraged since the hair grows back thicker making it more detectable during the next session.
